Dialing a phone number

Actuality : demonstration of a shopping cart component, at    http://www.zailes.org/com

LanceAppel2

To dial a phone number is more practical with a computer, especially if you have to dial it regularly. This program, for Windows (tested on XP Home), can dial a number, either seized or copied from the notepad or a spreadsheet -supposing, of course, that your computer is connected to a phone line via a modem.

The French version is proposed since 2006, here is now the international one that was promised for a few months.

This version is adaptive on two points : the language of the interface, and the format of the phone number. The language of the interface is chosen (except during the installation, this will come later) between French and English, further languages can be included later especially if you propose yourself to take a few minutes to realize the translation (feel free to use the “contact” link in the upper left corner of the page, with the scripts active, or your mail application to the address that is written in graphic format).

The phone format includes the phone country code (33 is for France), and so has to be adapted to the country (countries) to which you phone. You can register a list of formats you currently use, and the last format you used will be retrieved the next time you open the application.

To install the LanceAppel2 program, just execute InstallAppel2.msi

Please note that you need the rights to create a folder and files in it in Program Files, and a shortcut on the desktop, so, if your machine is correctly installed, you need to open an administrator session (or window) for this purpose. This means that when clicking on this link, if you get an "execute" button and a "download" one, you will click on "download", and then double-click on the file once in the admin session.

Its notice of use is rather simple : click three times on “Next” and once on “Close”.

This program supposes you have the .Net platform installed on your machine, but as it is installed by the automatic updates of Windows, I imagine this should be no problem (otherwise you will find it on Microsoft’s site).

The installation includes a shortcut on the desktop —it is named LanceAppel2, the name will take your preferences about the inclusion of "Shortcut to" in account only when the installation interface is localized. You will need to launch the program with a key combination, so either you use a utility as Wonderkeys, or you modify the properties of the shortcut on the desktop. After a right click on the shortcut, click on Properties (or the equivalent in the language of Windows), click in the zone I surrounded in red, depress the key combination you would like to launch the program, and then click on Apply in the downright corner of the dialog box. If the key combination does not stay displayed, please try another one. Eventually depress Enter or click on OK.

After that, when launching LanceAppel2 with the shortcut, you see the following dialog box.

Main interface

Just after the installation, it is quite possible you do not have it in the language you wish (at the beginning the available languages are French and English). Then, please drop the drop-down list in the upper left corner, by clicking on the triangle right hand of it, and then click on the language of your choice (see picture down here). A few seconds later the dialog box will close, and then reopen in the chosen language. (It is right that after the installation the default language should be the Windows installation language, but I shall treat this later).

Language selection

The above dialog box is the interface of the program if you selected nothing when launching the program.
You can also select the name and phone number of the correspondant before calling the program.

Please notice that the cursor stays at the left, but the figure you seize comes directly at the place that is shown by an “_”.

After seizing the number, when you depress the tab key, you directly arrive in the name field, so you can seize the name of your correspondent.

Once you have the number in the “Number” field and the name of the correspondent in the “Name” field, you just have to click on “OK” (or depress Enter), and the Windows dialer will open and compose the number.

Attention : on some phone installations, you have to let the phone hanged down until the number is dialed, and then take the handset. Otherwise the number is misdialed. On other phone installations, this problem does not occur and you can pick up the receiver during the dialing or just before.

Within a few days, two more pages will explain you, how to transmit data via the clipboard and how to manage phone number formats. For the first part, you can read the description of the first version, for which you find a link down this page. For the second part, to know what to put in the format please refer to the Windows documentation, and to insert a new format, please type it in the "Format" field, and then click on the "Select format" button.

I am sorry, I only dispose of these pictures in French, as my Windows is installed in French.

Supposing the previous paragraph is the selection when you called the program, when you depress Enter the dialer shows the following dialog boxes while dialing.

Call state

Call state. Just click on the first button, this will record the time as being the start of the call. Should the correspondent not answer, the second button will close this dialog box.

Call control

On the left, you first see the title of the dialog box (here “Appel téléphonique”, meaning "phone call", that you will have in the installation language of Windows), then the name you seized in the program (second picture on the main part of this page), then the number, that can be modified from what you seized considering the phone rules that are explained in the Windows documentation but will also be explained here later (in the illustrated example, the rules stipulate that each number is preceded by 3651 to hide the number), and the next line is always “LanceAppel2” (that Windows names a comment ; if somebody tells me how the dialer can record the comment in the log I shall propose an interface to seize another one).

On the right hand side of the dialog box, you see a “disconnect” link. When clicking on this you stop the chronometer, and the information about the call is recorded in the dialer log.

The two windows above are closed, you still have the main “Dialer” window open, so that for the next call you do not have to wait for it to open. To avoid its taking place on the screen, its size is reduced. You can let its menu appear with a mouse drag and drop, draging at the bottom of the window, downward.

Dialer

This is the address where the first version of this program is shown, it is a version that is developped in VB6 for France : the interface is only displayed in French, and the phone number format is fixed to
+33(0)0 0000 0000.
